Culture Day

Culture day is arguably student’s favourite day of the academic year and takes place at the end of the first half term in October. Culture day is a powerful, enriching and vibrant event celebrating the diversity present in our school community through food, dress, music, dance and interactive activities. Culture day not only celebrates global traditions but also reinforces our key values at the heart of our school community. This event strongly reflects our British Values of mutual respect alongside our own core value of community. It is a day filled with pride in identity and a shared commitment to understanding and celebrating one another.

Key benefits of Culture Day

  • Promotes Inclusion and Equity: It makes students from diverse backgrounds feel seen, valued, and proud of their heritage
  • Encourages Empathy and Respect: Activities like traditional dress, food sampling, music, and storytelling teach students to appreciate traditions different from their own.
  • Builds Community Spirit: Sharing personal stories, artifacts, and group projects helps break down social barriers and brings students, teachers, and families together.
  • Expands Worldviews: It offers a hands-on, memorable way to learn global geography, history, and social values beyond regular textbooks.

Students take part in an Inter Faith assembly delivered by representatives from different faith leaders present in Oldham. The theme of this year’s culture day will be ‘this is me, this is you, this is us’ promoting the idea that we all belong. This theme will run through the day, and students will engage in form ‘show and tell’ activities, watch music and dance performances, and can take photos with friends in the hired photobooth. Students will have the opportunity to try Henna, learn languages, try different foods and have their face painted. All students will come together in form reflection to consider what they have learned from the day.

Students bring in what is considered traditional food to their own heritage- often the most looked forward to part of the day! Students can try foods from other countries and learn about the ingredients and how these traditional foods are made- a wonderful opportunity to share and eat together!

This is a wonderful and enriching day in which our students learn so much about each other.  A lovely way to end our first half term celebrating the rich diversity of our school community.
