Knowledge Organisers & Recall

At Brian Clarke Academy, students complete weekly recall tasks in English, Science, History, Geography and Religious Studies. Students use their Knowledge Organiser booklets which have been expertly written by curriculum department areas to include all the core knowledge which students need to know and remember.

Teachers will set a specific aspect of the Knowledge Organiser for students to focus on in each Home Learning recall task and students will complete their independent recall studying in their Masters of Knowledge books using one of the strategies outlined below:

Strategy 1: Look, Cover, Write, Check

Step 1 – Write and underline the date and the title e.g.  ‘History Recall’ in your MoK book.

Step 2 – Find the section of the Knowledge Organiser your teacher has told you to revise that week.

Step 3 – Read (out loud if you can) each piece of knowledge, one at a time, using any images/diagrams/examples to help you.

Step 4 – Cover up the information with an item like your planner. If they are definitions, leave the word visible.

Step 5 – In your MoK book, try to write down the information (or the words and their definitions) you have read.

Step 6 – Uncover the definitions and check whether your written work is correct.

If fully correct – tick it

If almost right – draw a small line, correct in green pen and try again (repeat at least two more times or until correct).

Step 7 – Repeat this for all the words or information you need – remember do one at a time.

Step 8 – Go back to the start, cover up all the words in one go and see if you can recall everything you have learnt in one go.
