We are incredibly proud of our reading culture at Brian Clarke. As part of home learning, we expect students at to read for at least 2 hours per week (or 30 mins per day on 4 days per week). This forms part of their Home Learning and is best scheduled into their individual Home Learning Timetable. Regularly reading for pleasure is shown to have a positive impact on a person’s life chances and will support students academically across the curriculum. It also support’s students’ wellbeing.
Our wonderful library at Brian Clarke stocks hundreds of wonderful books including fiction and non-fiction – there really is something for everyone. Students can access the library every day at break time, lunch time and from 2:45pm – 3:30pm. The librarian team is always on hand to help students select something they will love! Students can even access the library from home, using the library dashboard, where they can reserve and browse new books (click here to access or go to the student BCA home page on SharePoint)
If you would like to support your child with their reading, we recommend you:
We will monitor the reading students are completing for their Home Learning through their ATS lessons in Y7 and Y8, and through Form Times in Y9.
